In the painting The Return of Persephone by Frederic Leighton, the escort of Hermes illustrates and explains the deeper meaning of how important the attraction of love between families really is and the author definately wants us to comprehend that concept.

This assignment was to pick a greek mythology character and to tweet as if we were our character.  The ten tweets represent our character by talking in the tone of voice he (Cronus) would speak in. The picture represents Cronus’ symbol. That is the end of my Twitter Persona Assignment.

The Contender

by: Robert Lipsyte

This novel is the first installment in a four part series about a teenager named Alfred Brooks, a high school dropout who lives in the very poor streets of Harlem, New York. He has the same old boring nothing job at a grocery store. After altercations with street punks and bullies he finds himself in Donatelli’s Gym. Coming to find himself being put through crazy and grueling trained by Mr. Donatelli. Potentially, he becomes more poised, disciplined, and a great person is found beneath him. He then learns confidence to stand up in the face of danger, learns to gain respect, and that the effort means so much more deeper and emotion filling than that feeling of winning in the process of becoming a man.

This novel is probably one of my most favorite novels of all time just because it has to do with testing your limit and it kind of comes down to who wants it more. I like how it shows bit by bit how this person goes from a poor, scared, and just plain wuss with no determination turns into a very strong willed, confident, and disciplined young man. At the beginning of the book Alfred is confronted at his friend’s house by some street punks named Hollis, Sonny, and Major. Alfred, hot in the situation he just tries to ignore it to the point to where he can’t bear it anymore. His palms were sweaty and he was scared so he backed down and walked away. When later in the book he finds his heart in boxing and finds his way through the streets due to the great motivation of Mr. Donatelli.

This is a book about determination and sport motivation and would be great for anyone who just likes a good story or who is interested in motivation towards contact sports. It also is dealing with issues happening in all of our lives and you have to read it to be able to understand the concept behind it. The tone toward it is crazy it’s definitely moving and kind of directly to the heart if you understand it. Once you begin reading it takes a minute before you get interested then once you do you won’t be able to let this come out of your hands. one of the best motivational books you’ll read, period.

Quotation Assignment

“A Champion is someone who gets up when he can’t.

Tunney Auction Boxing

A great man created this quote after one of his experiences inside the ring. Jack Dempsey was a Heavyweight Boxing Champion from the 20th Century. Boxers in particular have various quotes that are famous, but this one in particular really caught me. For the first time, I was inspired to drive me to keep on going, when I usually wouldn’t. Dempsey, Former Heavyweight boxing champion is ranked #7 on Ring magazines list of 100 greatest punchers of all time. Also he has an amazing 83-6-11 record…66 of his wins come by way of KO and he only has one KO loss. So now when I’m in football or Mixed Martial Arts I become revitalized when I just remind myself to be a champion.
